FROM SUPT. KLEINHANS: Letter explains district closure due to COVID-19 outbreak

Dear TSD FAMILIES,

RE: STATE OF MICHIGAN MANDATED SCHOOL CLOSURES:

MARCH 16 TO APRIL 6, 2020

This message serves as an update to COVID-19 state mandated school closures. Taylor School District Leaders met to brainstorm a plan to address the safety of our staff, students and families. It is important to note that information is changing on an hourly basis. We will do our best to give you the most up to date information, as we receive it.

The following includes important information for our students and family members.

FOOD SERVICE:

• We are committed to continuing to provide meals to our students who count on our schools for food each day. We are working on a plan to distribute food for students that are in need. Details and food distribution sites will be announced as soon as possible.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL ISSUES:

Some of our students have critical medication and supplies stored at school. Families that may need to pick up medical supplies can do so on Monday, March 16, 2020 from 9 am to 12 pm. (Please note, this is the only planned time the buildings will be available)

Per the CDC, for reasons of social distancing, we are asking that you only come to the building if there is a CRITICAL need. We need to limit the number of people entering the buildings. Please use your best judgment.

For safety reasons, ALL TSD visitors coming into buildings, MUST sign in at the office. (per CDC Guidelines)

Individuals entering the buildings are urged to self-monitor by taking their temperatures and ensuring they are symptom-free. Please respect the health and safety of everyone.

SPRING BREAK:

• In the spirit of transparency, we are awaiting directives from the Governor and MDE. The intention is to keep Spring Break dates status quo, but for now, nothing is certain.

ALL SCHOOL EVENTS:

• ALL school events and activities are cancelled until further notice. ALL TSD facilities are CLOSED.

These are unprecedented times and we are taking action today in conjunction with messaging from Governor Whitmer, MDE, CDC, Wayne County Health Department, and Wayne RESA. We will communicate via email, website and robocall.

All families are encouraged to check the website and TSD Facebook page regularly.

At this time, we must all do our part! Thank you for partnering with us to fulfill our TSD mission. We are committed to the health and safety of our staff, students and families. We will continue to do our best to serve our community.

Together, we can achieve great things in the name of our students!

Yours truly,

Mark Kleinhans
Interim Superintendent
