WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL make a name for themselves at Monroe District 12 music festival

On Saturday, January 25, about 50 West Middle School students gathered at Monroe Middle School to perform as soloists or ensemble members for MSVMA District 12 Solo and Ensemble Festival.

The results were great. Both groups of Cardinal Singers scored a “II” rating, as did soloists Grace Sova and Hayden Pike.  Soloists Joe St. Charles, Jeff Matthews, Cameron Ingersoll, Jesse Baker, Theresa Nnangobya, Autumn Little, McKayla Weisler, Jillian Wozniak, and Brooke Boatman all achieved a “I” rating.

Each soloist or group performed 2 songs from approved collections of folk, art, foreign language, or spiritual songs.  Tracey King or Mr. Martin accompanied the soloists by playing the piano.  The Cardinal Singers split into two groups, and each performed an a cappella English madrigal, and an another a cappella song in Latin.  Each group was rated on a 30-point scale, and given one of four ratings: IV (poor), III (fair), II (good), or I (excellent).
