Thousands of people, including many from the Taylor Schools, attended the 2019 Winterfest Saturday, flooding the streets with runners and parade units and finally flocks of people who wanted to see the official City of Taylor holiday tree lighting and fireworks.
The parade featured 49 units and marched from City Hall down Goddard and Pardee roads to Heritage Park. Once it got to the Sheridan Center, Mayor Rick Sollars and his best friend, Santa Claus, addressed the huge crowd and lit the 40-foot holiday tree that resides in the open air pavilion through the winter season.
Fireworks topped off the evening. Many, if not most people then walked over to the first day of Santa’s Magic Forest, Downriver’s premiere indoor Christmas display, which is housed in the Activities Building through Christmas.
Nearly 200 runners opened the day with the Run Run Rudolph 5K Run. The event continued with hundreds of people attending the Winter Festival inside the Sheridan Center throughout the afternoon, enjoying cookie decorating, crafts, music and much more.
