WEST musicians up their game, play with symphony

Twenty students from the West Middle School bands performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Concert and Symphonic Bands recently.

On November 10th the students performed their first concert at Orchestra Hall under the direction of Damien Crutcher and Kimberly Eberly.

The concert band members: Kayla Aguila, Kaitlyn Aguila, Christopher Alfaro, Brooke Boatman, Holly Fife, Michael Geiss, Megan Hayes, Madyson Hilton, Joslyn MacKenzie, Matthew Mukasa, Patricia Nakanwagi, Theresa Nnangobya, Brianna Nibarger, MacKenzie Nibarger, Gabby Odeh, Alex Rose, Lucy Snyder, Joshua Stachulski, Nicholas Stachulski, and Estaban Vargas performed modern works from Grant, Broege, and Hazo.

Aiden Jahr is the second West student to perform with the Symphonic Band. Audience members enjoyed Little English Suite, Endless Rainbows, and Lighting Field.

Parents can find West students rehearsing at the DSO every Saturday morning. West students will take the stage again in March and May. Our students represented West Middle School and the Taylor School District at its highest level. Congratulations to our young musicians!
